LOFTY IMPROVEMENT
LOFTY IMPROVEMENT
LINCOLN, MA
Our client family loved their mid-century deck house but could see that the semi attached two car garage had more potential than it was living up to. *Ta-da* With a small footprint extension we transformed it from one garage space into three interior spaces, an artist’s workspace, a storage / sleeping loft and a two car garage! We also created a glassy connection to the back patio and a new back deck space (a fourth new space!). The entire transformation was respectful to the home’s original design aesthetic incorporating stained vertical mixed width cedar siding, deep eave roofs with exposed rafters, high quality aluminum windows, custom metal railings and simple modern lighting. The new deck greatly improves the mudroom breezeway safety and connection to the back patio and the new windows improve the weather proofing. We used sealed plywood for the finished floors in the new work and loft spaces for a fun industrial texture and the new loft takes advantage of the amazing ceiling heights. This project had some hurdles passing the local conservation commission and zoning board of appeals, but the finished project maximized the home’s existing space and turned out wonderfully.
