FORM, FUNCTION, AND FUN!
Yes
FORM, FUNCTION, AND FUN!
ARLINGTON, MA
This home and its location is perfect for this family, but it was way overdue for a functional and aesthetic overhaul. They wanted to honor their home's early 1900s era design but also wanted it to reflect their passion for whimsy, color, and Nordic design, and also functionally improve their day to day living. We completely reworked the kitchen and primary bathroom, and gave the rest of the home a fresh update to make it all cohesive. The kitchen transformation included removing a portion of the partition at the rear stair and adding a large window to visually expand the space and bring natural light in. The existing door and window layout in the space severely limited the amount of storage and counter opportunities. To address this, we resized the existing windows and relocated a bedroom door to allow ample prep space and storage. The inclusion of natural wood cabinets with beadboard door insets pays tribute to the gumwood wainscoting formerly in the kitchen. The upper floor primary bathroom was simply a powder room which meant the only shower in the home was on the lower floor and it was shared by the family of four. We were able to expand it, taking space from an oversized hallway, and added a petite steam shower and a gorgeous walnut vanity with plenty of storage and style. The hexagonal and rectangular tiles are an updated, playful version of the hexagonal and subway tiles found in this home's era. The rest of the space was updated and refreshed with new windows, custom window shades, paint, lighting, wallpaper, refinished floors, and smart storage solutions to bring form, function, and fun together!
