The kitchen in this Winchester home was positioned away from natural light and had a woefully insufficient sized island which made it feel unenergizing and less than joyful to use. The homeowners also wanted to add a nice sized mudroom and laundry area adjacent to the side door for all the family sports equipment storage and cleaning. We transformed an outdoor deck to a spacious mudroom with built in "locker" cabinets and rugged flooring and repositioned the kitchen to allow for windows and a large island, and a home office area. The spaces are bright and fresh feeling with mostly neutral tones and and a nice variety of texture in the materials. The perimeter counters are a granite with leathered finish and the island is the same granite but with a polished finish and thicker edge over blue cabinets to make it a stand out piece. Other materials in the space include a porcelain subway tile with a wavy surface, a small glass herringbone tile, warm cherry wood, and a blue grasscloth.
